Becoming Like What We Behold (Psalm 99)
Becoming Like What We Behold (Psalm 99)

We naturally mirror what we admire. Whether it is an athlete or an actor, whatever holds our attention eventually shapes our character. The Psalmist in Psalm 99 invites us to turn our gaze toward the most captivating One of all—God Himself. Because we become like what we look at, our transformation begins with where we fix our eyes.

The Call to Holiness Psalm 99 declares that God is holy. Holiness is not about being "a little nicer" than others; it is about being set apart for a specific purpose. Like an Olympic athlete whose life looks different because they are preparing for something bigger, our lives change when we realize we belong to God. Holiness is living steadily under His leadership, allowing His character to become the very "color" of our lives.

Untying the Knot Why do we struggle to reflect Him? Because of sin—the heart’s desire to sit in God’s seat. When we say, "I will do it myself," we tie a knot in the channel of grace. Like a kinked garden hose, our pride blocks the flow of God's abundant love, leaving our souls and relationships dry.

Healing Through Confession To reopen this channel, we need confession— or Homologeo, which means "to say the same thing as God." It is agreeing with His truth without making excuses. Confession is not humiliation; it is the healing that unties the knot. When we stop pretending and start confessing, God reopens the pipeline of grace.
