John 21:1–19          When Love Leads, Ministry Follows
John 21:1–19          When Love Leads, Ministry Follows

We recall last week's powerful encounter where the risen Jesus met His disciples, offering peace and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Yet, surprisingly, they returned to their former lives as fishermen in Galilee, seemingly disheartened. John 21 reveals the catalyst for their transformation: another profound meeting with Jesus. After a night of toiling with empty nets – those "empty net" moments we all face, which God can use to redirect us – Jesus appeared. He didn't scold them, but with tender love, called them "children" and performed the humble act of preparing breakfast. This simple act underscores that love is often expressed through practical care, not just lofty words. Lasting change in others is cultivated through consistent, loving relationships, creating a safe space for transformation.

Jesus then focused on Peter, who had denied Him three times. His repeated question, "Do you love me?" wasn't a test of Peter's loyalty, but a deliberate act of healing his deep wound and rebuilding his identity. Peter's true ministry didn't originate from his own passionate will, but from the profound and life-changing realization of Jesus' unwavering love for him, even in his deepest brokenness. This reveals a fundamental truth: genuine service doesn't begin with our striving to love God, but with the deep and personal understanding of how immensely He loves us first. Just as the moon reflects the sun's light, our service shines most brightly when it reflects God's own love. Therefore, let this divine love, which has been poured into our hearts, be the constant motivation behind all our service within the church and in every aspect of our lives. Don't merely go through the motions of ministry; go out and actively love. Because when love leads the way, true and impactful ministry will naturally follow in our workplaces, our homes, and throughout our communities. May the restoring and empowering love of Christ be with you all.
