Beyond Worldly Peace: Jesus' Unshakeable Gift
In John 14:23-29, Jesus offers a profound peace, a lifeline that anchors our hearts even when life feels out of control. Just hours before the cross, facing betrayal and pain, He declared, "My peace I give to you."
The biblical word Shalom means wholeness—not just absence of conflict, but completeness. Worldly peace, like a thermometer, fluctuates with circumstances. Jesus’ peace, however, is a thermostat, setting your soul's internal climate, shaping your response to situations. God’s peace isn't tied to circumstances; it’s deeply tied to His presence.
We receive this peace by believing God is greater than our problems and by drawing near to Him. You can’t microwave peace; you cultivate it through relationship and by trusting the One who controls all. This peace also stems from trusting God’s plan. Jesus went to the cross with peace, believing even the worst moment served God’s purpose. Real peace comes from knowing your life isn't random; it's part of His intentional plan. Like Job, we find peace by trusting Who God is, not always understanding why.
Life is full of "spiritual earthquakes," but Jesus is our unshakeable foundation. When we build our lives on Him, the shaking may come, but we won't fall.
Are you living in this peace—for every Monday, every challenge, every fear? You don’t have to chase it; just come to the One who gives it. Let go of anxiety, surrender what you can't control, and let Jesus fill you with His peace—the "peace that passes understanding." Remember, peace is not the absence of problems, but the presence of Christ. May you walk with a steady heart, anchored in God’s unchanging love, radiating a calm that can only be explained by Jesus.
